6 Reasons Sleep is The Best New Year’s Resolution
First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Secondly, aren’t you sorta glad the holidays are over? I, for one, am over them and ready to get back to my routine. Speaking of…let’s chat sleep routines, shall we?
We know sleep is great for you - we’ve been hearing this for years. But WHY is it good for us and our babies? While there are many ways we can easily pinpoint like being less cranky or ability to function during the day, here are a few that you might not know and are super important to the development of our little ones. So, let’s start the new year out with some science!
1.Brain Development
Most of baby's brain development happens during sleep: literally. This is when the connections between the left and right hemispheres of their brains are being formed.
2. Immune System
Cytokines need to increase when you have an infection or inflammation, or when you're under stress. In addition, infection-fighting antibodies and cells are reduced during periods when you don't get enough sleep.
3. Mood & Regulation
Sleep improves over mood and regulation. A study in Pediatrics found that childhood sleep deficiencies may be linked to future problems & decreases in mental functioning that begin as early as adolescence.
4. Parental Bond
Improved sleep quality: When babies sleep better, parents can be more engaged with them during the day, which can strengthen the bond. Reduced stress: Sleep training can improve maternal mood and reduce stress.
5. Cognitive Function
Sleep quality is linked to such things as attention, learning, memory, and behavior. It also impacts a child's body, releasing hormones that aid growth, build muscles, and repair cells and tissues.
6. Overall Health
The brain has a drainage system that removes toxins during sleep. When we sleep, the brain totally changes function and cleanses the mind + body.
