Holiday Travel Sleep Tips

Let’s be honest, holiday travel can be super stressful, especially when you have little kids.

Here are some helpful travel sleep tips

  • Accept that they are in a new environment and it is totally normal to have some setbacks or an adjustment period to their new sleep space

  • Ignore any family judgment of making sleep a priority for you or your little ones. “Will you be up with them at 3am” type of joke can suffice but YOU DO YOU!

  • Be ok with flexibility if it will stress you out LESS - timing out a car ride for a nap or opt for a contact nap when need be.

  • Remember being a little off schedule is OK! Just adjust nap or bedtime accordingly (let nap 2 go a little longer if nap 1 was a hot mess or if babe skips a nap, do a cat nap or move bedtime up 30 mins to an hour)

  • Try not to let them sleep past our allotted daytime sleep hrs just to help with sleep pressure / less protest time at night (dm me if you need this info)

  • You can go a little gentler the first night to help them acclimate then utilize the method or strategies should you need them to get them to sleep

  • Recreate the environment at home the best you can where you are

  • Use portable blackout curtains if room isn’t dark enough

  • Toddler parents, consider a reward for sleeping in the new space all night

  • So many more but those are what came to mind. Give yourselves grace and try your best to enjoy your holiday!
